Defence West is a branch within the Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science, and Innovation that aims to grow the state’s defence industry, expand related infrastructure, and create jobs across five operational areas: information and cyber, maritime, air, space, and land.
As a leading aeronautical engineering and technology company that designs, manufactures, certifies, and maintains, uncrewed aerial systems and related equipment, Innovaero has benefited greatly from the support and guidance of Defence West in various aspects of our defence and aerospace business.
How Defence West has assisted Innovaero
Defence West has been instrumental in facilitating our pitch to the Defence and related Federal agencies to participate in the development of sovereign capability and capacity in Uncrewed Aerial Systems (UAS), one of the Six Capability Streams identified by Defence. Defence West has also guided us toward defence capability infrastructure grants and provided us with valuable consultation on Australian Defence programs.
Reach right back to Canberra
Defence West is not an insular Western Australian body, far from Canberra and the pulse of Defence acquisition and sustainment.
Defence West is equipped with strong and relevant linkages in the national defence community both at government and industry levels. Defence West is a useful resource for finding relevant information, identifying key stakeholders and decision-makers, and facilitating introductions. All these are critical functions needed for Defence Industry suppliers seeking contracts from Defence.
Promotional opportunities
Innovaero has taken advantage of the promotional opportunities organised by Defence West, participating in local industry events including Avalon 2023 in February and WA Resource and Technology Showcase April 2023.
Innovaero has also leveraged the large well positioned Defence West Exhibition stands at these and other events nationwide. This quality footprint at major exhibitions enables Innovaero to display our products and capabilities in prominent locations and punch well above our weight for the cost of participating.
Naturally, when the opportunity to showcase our UAS programs and focus on Defence arose, we took a double page spread in the recently published WA Defence Review.
Innovaero is proud to be part of Western Australia’s defence industry and grateful for the ongoing support from Defence West. We look forward to continuing our collaboration with Defence West as we pursue our vision of delivering innovative solutions for the aviation and aerospace sectors.
During his visit to the Defence West stand, Mr. Albanese stopped by the FOX display and met with Innovaero team members Adam Kelly, Dave Tomkinson, Michelle Clement, Director of Defence Science Centre, Dept Jobs science and innovation, and Linda Dawson, Deputy Director General of the WA Dept of Industry, Science and Innovation.
